Good Morning,

We need the ability to portray the entire project/contract EVMS picture. We have monthly .xml files, but lack a complete timespan .xml file. (can the monthly files be merged?)

Also -

We are in a very low-rate production/delivery environment, with a mix of work 30-70% Level of Effort. To make things exciting, our delivery schedule for any given item changes weekly; sometimes moving deliveries months to the right (with no work planned during the hiatus). Often, work packages are started, then "shelved" for indefinite periods while higher priority work is attached (and even priority work may be "shelved" for even  higher priority work).

Any one have an idea about how to use WinSight i(in deed, how to use EVMS) in such environments?

Thank you....anyone.

Hi.

I'm not going to respond as it relates to wInsight, I'll let another of our meisters handle that. But regarding the question of applicability of your circumstances to EVMS, I do have a couple of thoughts. First a couple of questions, are you working in a circumstance in which EVM is required by contract/customer or are you working with an internal requirement?

Hello,

thank you for replying. afraid i got tangled up in EV and only just now got back to the forum pages.

to recap:
a. the wInsight question has been answered.
b. EV is required by contract, but the requiring/procuring agency may not have understood the limits to classic EVMS.

we are working in an environment where scheduled delivery dates are understood to be very flexible/unstable. one could observe that an inherently sliding delivery schedule makes maintaining an IMS a bit of an exercise in futility. the requiring agency wants the early warning benefits of EVMS, without regard to the impractability of obtaining actionable EV information when there is no hope of a firm schedule (a number of episodes of delivery schedule change are driven by the requiring agency. what i am after is comments regarding usefulness of continuing to pursue classic EV in our situation, or recommended alternative methods of early cost/schedule problems and reporting contract performance when the normal EV is continually disturbed by schedule fluctuations.

regards,
