Capture key project information on all projects and organize them into portfolios with project and portfolio workbooks
Workbooks capture key information about all projects, creating a central repository of comparable project information. When projects are grouped into portfolios their workbooks automatically roll up to the portfolio level. Both Project and Portfolio Workbooks are fully configurable so that you can include whatever information is most useful to your organization.
| Feature |
  |
Benefit |
| Project Workbook |
Provides an overview of each project. This includes information used to make the initial business case such as Return On Investment and Net Present Value. Workbook information can be entered manually or be dynamically linked via project adapters to data that is maintained in popular project management tools. This avoids entering information in two places. Metrics used in the Workbook can also be used as project scoring criteria. |
| Portfolio Workbook |
Summarizes information about each portfolio such as objectives and spending targets. The Portfolio Workbook also consolidates the contents of each Project Workbook, providing a single location for portfolio managers or executives to quickly locate important information about the portfolio or the projects within it. |
| Project Adapters |
The unique project adapters of WelcomPortfolio allow workbook items to be dynamically linked to project metrics in external tools. Based on Web services technology, standard adapters link to the following project management applications:
- Deltek Open Plan
- Deltek Cobra
- Microsoft Project
- Primavera P3e
Custom adaptors can be created to link to other tools, such as Deltek Costpoint and other ERP systems. |

Rank projects against appropriate business criteria
Allows you to create a unique set of criteria for each type of portfolio. These are then weighted and used to rank projects. Projects scores are summarized in the Portfolio Scorecard making it easy to consistently compare project performance against the most relevant criteria.

Benefit |
| User-definable scoring criteria |
Qualitative rankings, fixed choices, and quantitative values. Can link scoring criteria to internal and external project metrics, providing quantitative inputs to the project scoring process. Out-of-the-box, can dynamically link to criteria such as:
- Internal WelcomPortfolio project metrics including ROI, NPV, and Payback Period
- The project risk scores generated by Deltek WelcomRisk
- External project metrics from Deltek Open Plan and Cobra, Microsoft Project, and Primavera such as budget cost, earned value, cost performance index, etc.
|
| Weighted criterion sets |
Combine and weight criteria to reflect the priority of competing business goals within the organization. Can be managed centrally as library items. |
| Scoring Wizard |
Once a criterion set is defined, a user-friendly Scoring Wizard guides users in ranking each project within the portfolio against each criterion. |
| Portfolio Scorecard |
A one page summary making it easy to objectively evaluate all projects within a portfolio and compare individual rankings. |

Match resource demand with capacity
As well as doing the right mix of projects, it is essential that companies also choose the right number of projects, based on available resources. If resources are overextended then project execution often suffers through schedule delays and cost overruns. Deltek WelcomPortfolio helps you to determine the right number of projects based on effective capacity planning.
If resource information for ongoing projects is contained in a scheduling tool, Deltek WelcomPortfolio allows you to link to that system to obtain the very latest resource demand data. Potential new projects can then be analyzed alongside existing commitments to get a true picture of resource utilization.

Benefit |
| Project Planner |
Define a high-level plan by entering phases and their resource requirements directly into a time-phased grid, making it easy to perform capacity planning for new project initiatives before a critical path schedule is created. |
| Resource Planner |
Supports the hierarchical definition of resources. During capacity planning, resource constraints can be displayed at different levels. Resource structures can also be imported from Deltek Open Plan, Microsoft Project, and Primavera saving labor and reducing entry errors. |
| Interactive Capacity Planner |
View resource over- or underutilization so projects can be rescheduled to resolve resource constraints. Because project priorities are driven by WelcomPortfolios scorecard, the right projects access resources first, automatically. |
